Fun in a box

Fun, fun,fun!  Don’t you just love boxes on the doorstep?

I was skipping around on the internet and saw something too cute.

It was OUT OF STOCK!  Ugh.

I ordered it anyway.  Backordered actually.  In the era of instant gratification, backordered is a naughty word.

So I waited.

And then, it came!

A rather big, and plain, brown box.

Open, open, open!

Surprise!  A small, beautiful, red box!

Filled with the cutest set of nesting Babushka measuring cups you’ve ever seen!  Will my cookies and muffins taste better because of them?  We’ll see.

Do you want some too?  You can see them here and here

Recent trip to Houston

Just thought I would pass on a few fun things to do if you are in the Houston area:

Eat breakfast at The Breakfast Klub

Houston 1 wm.jpeg

I’m going to go on the record and say that I had the best French toast and fried chicken wings in my life at this place. “Chicken wings?”, you say.  Yes.  The Breakfast Klub is famous for their waffle and 6 piece fried chicken wing breakfast.  My sister in law, pictured above, was kind enough to share one of her chicken wings with me.  After tasting the wings I can’t say that I would have done the same.  My French toast was other worldly.  How they do it?  Maybe it was deep fried.  I don’t know but angels sang with each bite.

This may seem like a lot of hoopla about wings, but seriously…  How to describe the fried chicken wings…   a dream perhaps, never tasted anything like it.  Made me wish for a bigger piece, a thigh maybe, battered and fried the same way.  Wishes and dreams.

If you go, be prepared to wait at peak breakfast and lunch times.  The line wraps around the building and rain or shine people wait.  And wait.  We waited about an hour on a cold and damp Saturday at 11:30 am.  We were cold and damp with lots of other TBK hipsters.  What to say about that?  It was worth it.

Found a great thrifting place, Blue Bird Circle Resale Shop.  One of those secret little places the collectors and vintage crowd like to keep to themselves.  But you won’t tell anyone will you?  Check their hours before you go.  By the time we left TBK I only had about 20 minutes to look around.  So sad.

Here are some more fun photos taken while antiquing on Westheimer:

     Houston 8 wm Houston is a great city for graffiti art.  It’s kind of fun to think of someone perusing their vast graffiti stencil file for the best sample to go on a city pole.  Very crafty.

     Houston 11 wm.jpeg I’m kind of a cupcake-o-holic.  And kind of figure that good brakes on a car are for coming to a screeching halt when the word ”cupcake” is spotted on a building.  Sugarbaby’s is a Cupcake Boutique.  The inside was just as cute.  I have to say that the cupcakes were just “okay”.  But in Sugarbaby’s defense, in addition to my blossoming mini cake addiction, I am slipping into becoming a cupcake snob.

Oh wow.  Why does she take these pictures?!  I don’t know.  Some people collect postcards on vacation and others collect salt and pepper shakers.  I collect  photos of city sewer lids.  Hmmm.  What do you collect?  Leave a comment and let the world know.Houston 10 wm.jpeg

Happy Day After Valentines Day!

Heart Picnik collage6 wm.jpeg

 To Live content with small means;

to seek elegance rather than luxury,

and refinement rather than fashion;

to be worthy, not respectable; and

wealthy, not rich; to listen to stars and

birds, babes and sages, with open heart;

to study hard ; to think quietly, act

frankly, talk gently, await occasions,

hurry never; in a word, to let the

spiritual, unbidden and unconscious,

grow up through the common --

this is my symphony.

I took some photos.  See?

Don’t you worry about this kid.  He’s a teenager and this is karma, dude.  He’s got his IPod so he’s good for awhile…

Oh my, but that’s funny.

That’s a lot of snow!

clubhouse in snowwm.jpeg This is DR’s clubhouse.  She decorates it with hope, happy thoughts and pretty little things!   It’s been told that if you find your way through the “twinkling charms” and ride the slide to the bottom you’re certain to have one wish come true.

Somedays I ride that slide two or three times…

Spaghetti Tacos?

Other things that might be eaten at our table…

spaghetti tacos wm.jpeg

This is one of my better parenting moments and it is what it appears to be… a spaghetti taco.  One little chillie begged and pleaded because “They made them on icarly!”… and we were having spaghetti for dinner anyway… and we did have taco shells… and as a parent, when you’re given the opportunity to be the best parent on the block and it’s this easy, you take it.  :)

Mondays are made for laughs

Oh my, so many plans meant for today and they didn’t happen.  I’m stuck home with a cold.  Oh well.

We need to laugh.  Hmmm… let’s see what I have…

Here’s our Beau Hiney:

Major Tom wm.jpegI guess he wanted to see what the fuss was all about.  Looking at him made me think of this song.

Here’s more kitty fun.  Just a few laughs to get us started.

I may have gotten carried away.  I feel better though.

Now you’ll have to go find your own laughs here, powered by the cute and insane!

Leave a comment and let me know what your favorite is.
